When you live in the south, without ac and the weather guy says it’s gonna be hotter than blue blazes…you cook dinner at 8 am

Getting outside my box

How often do we put ourselves in a box? Well if you are like me, it’s more than you like to admit.

low ropes course, beginner level

We put ourselves in a box everyday. We live in our airconditioned house, drive our airconditioned car and go to our airconditioned office. Folks, that’s a box. We have become so “busy” we have forgotten how to play. How to enjoy the world around us. We all need the fresh air and vitamin D that we get from being outside in the sun. Take a minute and ask yourself, “when is the last time I played outside?”.

My husband and I have jumped into a new chapter in our adventure. Our kiddos are older and self-sufficient (mostly), they don’t need us to hold their hand any more. We are encouraging them to find the things they enjoy. The hubby loves kayaking and ALL things water; me not so much. I am renewing my adventurous spirit, which has been in hiding for many years. When we were in college I taught rock climbing and assisted with the ropes courses. I loved being able to watch people over come the challenges and face their fears. I am a cheerleader by nature and a helper at heart. But I’m no softy when it comes to coaching. And I can be very hard on myself.

No adventure is complete without a little blood shed… I chose to go on the beginners obstacle course, which included a short wall to climb over, several balancing logs, a wall, a small zip line, the mesh rope thing, swinging logs and the swinging boards. I successfully scaled the walls and crossed the logs and swinging logs as well as the mesh/net rope thing. I almost successfully did the zip line. That’s what got me. I was a smidge to short to get off the zip line by myself and as I managed to wiggle myself off to the ground, it popped back and wacked my hand. But again no pain no gain, right? Don’t worry I didn’t let it stop me. I just had the hubby come along to catch me on the next go round. Which he did, after laughing as he watched me try to get down by myself.

There was one part that I refused to do. The man teased and started to do it but then agreed with me. hahaha It was too muddy. I ain’t getting stuck in a pipe in the mud for kicks and giggles. Thanks, but no thanks.

It is muddy than it looks in this picture
